Get a Full Development View with 360° Feedback

Feedback is a valuable part of any leadership journey. When used as part of a development plan, feedback is a tool that helps leaders identify competencies, behaviors and skills they want to build for short-term and long-term growth.

360° feedback is an opportunity to gain a holistic, well-rounded view and gather developmental information. This information gives a leader a chance to understand how they are perceived by the circle of people they work and interact with: their leader, their direct reports, their peers, and other key colleagues/partners/customers.

The 360° Feedback process involves anonymous feedback from a group of raters: direct manager, self-assessment, peers, direct reports and other key partners/stakeholders. 360° Feedback surveys involve competencies and/or behaviors where the leader is involved in the process by completing a self-rating.  The participant then chooses raters to complete a survey and provide their view of the person’s leadership competencies and behaviors. From the survey data a confidential and comprehensive report is compiled. That report is reviewed with the 360° participants in a confidential one-on-one coaching meeting. They are given the chance to review the feedback, determine the information they want to leverage to develop further and begin to build a development plan.

Improving leadership effectiveness requires behavior change. A 360° feedback process, when done correctly, increases the chances that change will occur. Reviewing the feedback from the surveys with a coach helps the leader to focus on the areas they feel will help them to develop and areas and competencies they want to round out.  They can align their development plan to current focus areas or future roles and focus areas.

High potential employees, those managers who move into a “leading leaders “type of role (another layer of leadership between them and the “front line”) and c-suite leaders are potential participants for a 360° Feedback process. To help key leaders on their development journey, 360° Feedback is a tool that can provide insights and information to help them develop for the short and long term.
